sr10 into vegas 8 and/or 9?

client just dropped off a sr10 with a couple of hours of material on it. my only previous experience was with footage he'd already dumped on an ex hd....

a. how do i ingest into vegas (avchd camcorder on import)?

b. i'm thinking i might play with it in 9 - but also 8 - i've been following the thread about mfx instead of (non-existent) cineform, so is there any reason not to convert to mfx and so be able to use in both? (this ISN'T a mission critical broadcast project, in fact, as long as the material retains 90% quality i'll be happy)

c. any other suggestions with this camera / format (the client has asked me to shoot some time lapse stuff, eg, sun up / down, clouds, etc.,)

thanks

Is the footage in 51. surround sound? I ask this because you may have a few complications with the audio if you go with mfx. The 5.1 AC3 within the MTS file does import directly to the time line.

I have the sr11.... and in version 8 the LFE track is a little bugged (it flat-lines the track on import) but I simply import the MTS files directly to the time line. In version 9 the frame rate plays full (after a little delay) but with the transitions and effects you have to use dynamic ram for proper preview.

hi b3t,

to be honest i haven't even plugged it in yet. i doubt whether they knew it was capable of 5.1 ;-)

i'm not too worried about it anyway, it's 2nd camera stuff and all i'd need audio for is clap board marks for sync.

i gather then then you haven't tried the mfx route in 9?

i've just got my i7, so this will be my first run with it. i loaded it with 6gb ram, but i'm sticking with xp pro 32 for this job (don't want any nasty surprises), and then intend to dual boot with win 7 64bit.

meanwhile, any hints for working / getting the stuff off the camera?

thanks,

leslie

Haven't bothered. The SR11 files seem to work just fine directly on the timeline. As I said though... quite sluggish on the transitions/effects but SHIFT-B gets you through that.
