Stable Systems List - Share your system

set wrote on 11/9/2020, 4:25 PM

Based on our observations, VEGAS Pro's stability seems depends on certain configuration of PC Spec, GPU Drivers, Windows10 OS update version (a possibility that Win10 major update may revert the GPU driver back to previous version) , and the majority type of media you are working on. That's why some users found VEGAS Pro extremely stable while others having a lot of troubles...

So, if you have a stable system that can run latest VEGAS Pro version or by some specific 'modification' on settings, in this case by this time, is VEGAS Pro 18 (or Movie Studio 17), feel free to share your system here!

Please share:

  1. Your PC Spec
  2. Windows10 version (Start>type 'About'>About your PC and notice the Version).
  3. Your GPU drivers
  4. PC build date (the date or month or year that your PC was bought and built)
  5. Main video format / codec that you are working
  6. Additional Notes - just in case you need to do some modification or turn off turn on something in preference to be able to make VP stable, please explain it in this section

Btw, to keep this thread forum as a list, I welcome everyone to discuss anything related to spec in different thread forum here:

We are hoping this list can be become a good reference for other users or even for developers.

(Copy pasted from my 'profile page')

My System 1 specification:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz
Mainboard: Intel DX58SO2 Extreme Series*1
Video Card: ATI Radeon RX470 4GB Series (Digital Alliance DA DXRX 470 OC 4GB) (Adrenalin 20.8.1 (Release 7/29/2020)
RAM: 12GB
OS: Win10 Pro 64-bit Version 1903 OS Build 18362.1139
*1 Yes, this is the old mainboard - still PCIe2 - so my ATI Radeon RX470, which actually made for PCIe3, might not yet running full power.

PC Build Date: Probably build in 2011 first time, but upgraded to Win10 OS in 2016. Just did system restore, forgot in earlier 2019 or earlier 2020.

System 2 specification:
ASUS ROG Strix Hero II GL504GM Gaming Laptop
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 8750H CPU @2.20GHz 2.21 GHz
Video Card 1: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (Driver 27.20.100.8681)
Video Card 2: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 VRAM (Driver Version 452.06)
RAM: 16GB
OS: Win10 Home 64-bit Version 1903 OS Build 18362.1139
Storage: M.2 NVMe PCIe 256GB SSD & 2.5" 5400rpm 1TB SSHD

*Got this ASUS ROG in last Nov 2018, as a prize from Vegas Pro Your City Contest.

Additional Notes:

Primary main Video type I'm editing: AVCHD format & MP4 from DJI Osmo Pocket.

The Dynamic RAM of both systems have been set to 0 in order to make everything smooth and having no render-freezes.

Editing AVCHD format videos so far so good, but, especially in my ASUS ROG, it is easy to get crash when editing DJI Osmo Pocket MP4 media if the clips have reached 200+ counts, so routine-save of project is important.

As for editing the Cell-phone recorded type footages with VFR, seems so far getting better with latest releases of Vegas Pro... but not my 'primary' working video source.

Computer Specs: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB DDR4 Corsair 3200, AMD RX480 8GB Graphics Card, Gigabyte X570 Elite Motherboard. 1TB NVME C: Drive, various SSD's, mechanical and USB3 Caddy drives.

OS: Win 10 Pro 64 1909 build 18363.1198

GPU Driver: Radeon 20.2.2

Built: late last year 2019

Main codec: Mainly Panasonic G9, UHD 4K 50P, MP4 AVC 4:2:0 8bit

Additional Comments: I built this computer. I've been doing computer building since 1993 and have built custom computers for businesses, including building the networks for them.

Currently using VP17 and it has been pretty stable with hours of editing and compositing. Initially, I disabled so4compound, but have since enabled it and things are still running good.
