stalled video preview

With working with a large slideshow - a senior class slideshow - as I'm previewing, the preview window gets "stuck" on a certain slide and does not continue. If I try and click out of the window, I get the error box that the program is not responding and it shuts down. I don't know if it's because of the large file or if I have a glitch going. I tried unintalling and reinstalling Vegas.

I would recommend reducing the size of the image if it's larger than 1440 in either direction.

I've found turning off thumbnails and waveforms in View (V6 only, under preferences in previous releases) will help to some extent
Also reducing the res of the preview will speed things up, try draft auto, it'll look horrid but at least you can keep working.

As DSE said reducing the res of the photos can be a good move but if you've got 1,000s of them and don't have PS to automate the task that can be a PIA.

Also how the images are compressed will make a difference, jpegs and pngs seem to fare the best.

XnView is a free app that will do auto resizing pretty well, and pretty quickly.

If your video is stored on an external Firewire drive, then this is exactly what happens if you haven't applied the Firewire patch. If this is your situation, then you can usually wait about 40 seconds, and the system will return. On the off-chance that this is actually your problem, here's the link to the Microsoft fix for the Firewire(1394) SP1 problem:

Firewire 1394 SP1 Solutions

There is a separate link for SP2, but I don't have that one handy.
