Stalling while burning the DVD...

Dear Friends:

I have had 2 instances whereby the burn process has not completed.
The first one never got past 0 on both prepare and burn and the
second got 77% and 33%.
The error message below was presented by DVDA.
Note I have just got this program installed and am trying to burn a basic MPEG-2
one clip project to a DVD R.
My system does have some performance issues.
Anyway what can I do to get a project burned and free up
the connections to my DVD burner? Close down a bunch of programs?
Your advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Kill all unnecessary processes, particularly those that might have their eyes on your burner, such as AnyDVD. My backup software runs a process even when I'm not backing up so that it will be ready in case I do.

If your computer is underpowered by today's standards, don't install any software unless you absolutely need it.

Don't use your computer for anything else while you are burning.

PeterDuke:

Hi. I will try your hints with DVD RW and see if it can burn a simple movie.
I use KillProcess to shut down excess programs.

I do have a fairly nice PC and have used other burning software in the past with a high
success rate in general.

Will report back later.

Thanks,
Bill

Well, I shut down a bunch of processes - except for my security suite - and it stopped
burning at the same spot as last time.

In terms of my simple project, should it have a saved name? I have the menu
associated with it and the disc size used is about right and everything else looks okay,
but can it only burn a named, saved project?

Hope someone can help with more ideas.

Thanks,
Bill

Try create a Prepared File rather than burning a disc.

A Prepared File saves all your DVD files to a folder on your hard drive rather than burning them directly to a disc. (You can burn to a disc later if you'd like.)

This will eliminate the possibility that the DVD burner or your media is the problem.

To create a Prepared File, click Make DVD and then select the Prepare File option rather than the Burn option.

Steve:

Hi. Thanks for the insight. I did as suggested but as I wondered about earlier my M2v file is only
a Menu screen. That's what's on the newly created VOB's. DUUUHHHHHH.

Maybe that's part of the burn problem not sure. I will try to get my movie file showing up on the menu tree, do a save, and see where that takes me. Like I said this is my first authoring creation with DVDA and it's very difficult to figure out.

Sorry for the ignorance on my part.

Update: I was able to get the video file image placeholder to show up under the Menu word
and tried a burn but it immediately crashed so I did a "Prepare" which worked out fine.
Except there's no audio associated with the movie. This was a MPEG2 render with audio -
I thought- and I know that in some cases you have to render both separately, which is confusing indeed...
My menu chapter markers from Vegas showed up fine and even worked, Score 1 for me,
So now any quick ideas on how to get the audio files on-board with this project?
Start from scratch?

I will review the instructions about getting audio to play, yes I checked my volume switch on my receiver deck.

Thanks,
Bill
