stange behavior-mpeg video displays as still frame

I have been seeing some strange behavior and wondering if someone can explain what might be going on.

Editing using 8.0c and using a MPEG-2 Transport Stream clip and a ..mov clip - 2 different angles on same scene....

Today, the mpeg video has a still frame for 30 seconds where there used to be live video. There are no other clips on the timeline, and if I place an event of the same mpeg on the timeline (from explorer), it too has the still frame for 30 seconds.

However, if I open a new veg and place the same mpeg clip on the timeline, it plays correctly in that veg - and if I re-open the original veg that had the still frame issue, it then plays ok too.

I looked at the clip zoomed in to a frame by frame view on the timeline and could not see anything that indicated anything unusual about the clip.

So I am wondering why I got the still frame video where live video should have been ?

I have not seen the specific problem you are reporting, but I HAVE seen all sorts of glitches and strange behavior with MPEG-2 files in 8.0c, many of which I have reported on in this forum.

For my money, 8.0c is a step backwards from 7.0d when it comes to playing various flavors of MPEG-2 on the timeline.

When I have problems with VOB or MPEG-2 files in 8.0c, I do one of two things:

1. Re-create the project in 7.0d and proceed to edit in that version of Vegas.

or

2. Use the technique I outlined for editing VOB files in Vegas (which also works for regular MPEG-2 files as well):

VOB edit using DGIndex
