static in audio tracks

Hi! I am a new Video Factory user and am having major problems with the slideshow I'm creating for my sisters wedding. The audio tracks contain static in certain places, but the noise is inconsistent. Sometimes it will be in one part of the song, sometimes in others. This happens regardless of how I upload the music, (CD, Internet file, etc.) It is not a problem with the computer/speakers because they play music from other programs without any problem. Thank you for any suggestions!

Is the noise happening in the preview and/or the rendered output?

Thanks for your response! It's happening in preview... I haven't rendered the file yet (that means converting it to an Mpeg file, right?) I also burned the file onto a CD and played it back on my computer with the same results.

Rendering is the processing of the project into any format - if you've burned a cd then you've already rendered it, to MPEG1 if you burned a VCD.

I've just re-read your original post where you say the problem happens regardless of where your music's come from. My original thought was that you might be using MP3s created at a low sample rate, but that can't be right if you're taking the music from cd. Can you explain how you're doing that, please?

I used Roxio CD creater to burn the vf file, and that caused the static to stay but last night I tried something new-- I saved it as a wmv file (I think?) and played it with a RealOne player-- the static was gone! The pictures showed up as tiny thumbnails which was strange-- when I enlarged it, I lost all clarity as they turned into pixelated, blurred images. My main concern is creating a CD to play in a DVD player (since this is for my sister's wedding) and I'm going to try rendering to that format tonight. Hopefully the images and sound will both work out this time!

It looks like there's some misunderstanding here. Let's assume your project's called "wedding". Are you saying you copied wedding.vf to cd? If so, that's not going to help you - the vf file isn't a video file, it's a set of instructions for making one from your video clips. The fact that you've made a wmv file without noise is good news - wmv is a video file, so it looks like the problem may only be with the preview. It's still annoying, but it's not a show stopper!

If your end product is being played on a DVD player you'll be rendering to MPEG1. I'd suggest you try making making a movie to a disk file in that format and make sure it's ok too. You could also have a look at vcdhelp and check the compatibilty of the dvd player - some can only play cd-r or cd-rw.

Thanks so much for your help. I obviously don't know a whole lot about this stuff. I did successfully render the slide show to Mpeg format last night and the sound is fine. I am thrilled! The only strange thing I found was that when I tried playing it on my computer in RealOne or Windows Media (I don't have a DVD player to try it out on) the pictures showed up as really tiny-- you can't enlarge them either because they lose all clarity. Is there a reason for that?

Thanks again!
