Stay With SF or Go to VP?--- Newbie Help

I use Sound Forge to record from my Tascam 2 track DAT
through Opcode DATport/USB to my hard drive. I might use a
couple of effects, compress, normalize or just adjust the
volume. From there I go to CD Architect, set it all up and
burn it. Would it be to my advantage to use VP instead?
What is this I hear about using SF as an editor while using
VP? I thought VP was an editor. Also, is CD Architect
available as a menu selection through VP like it is through
SF since it is also a Sonic Foundry Program?
Thanks
Brian

Hi Brian,

I too work only in the 2-track stereo domain, and recently bought
Vegas because it offered 24Bit/96KHz recording. I record choral
and/or organ concerts direct to 24/96 .wav files. Then adjust
volume, maybe a little compression, in Vegas, and then 'render' to
16/44.1 .wav file. I now only use Forge to trim the ends,
fade/in/out. I will say that on a couple of tracks I did level
changes and compression on the 16/44.1 version with Vegas, and I
believe the result is cleaner than doing the same thing with Forge.

In a recent post, Peter described how Vegas processes internally in
floating point, then renders to desired output format when writing
back to disk. I tried to find out if Forge does this differently,
that might explain the perceived better sound with Vegas, but then
this is a Vegas forum . . To wrap this reply up, you may find that
Vegas does a better job than Forge doing what you're already doing.
Be advised that working in Vegas is NOT like working in Forge. I'm
still learning how to work better with it.

Regards,
Rick Z

I like vegas pro for its automated mixing capabilities. You can
either edit an entire track in sound forge...the computer just
bounces back and forth between the two programs. OR, you can set up
fades, pans and such, effects sends and fix it so they'll occur that
way every time. Quite handy. i see Vp as a logical next step from
Sound Forge.
