STB Remote and DVDA Buttons? Bizarre.

This is the bizarre result I get: Sometimes when I hit the "Top Menu" Button on my SONY STB Remote I get to a Sub Menu - eh? However, if I'm in another Submenu and hit Top Menu on my SONY STB Remote I get to the Top Menu.

What I can report is that:-

1] SONY's DVDA "Resume" Button is mapped to my SONY's STB Remote's "Menu" Button position. Why?

And . . .

2] SONY's DVDA "Settings" Button is mapped to my SONY's STB Remote's "Top-Menu" Button position. Why?

This is bizarre!

Actually, I kinda know why - each manufacturer has different setups. What I need, and I'm guessing everybody else here needs, is there ANY, sensible way to counteract this bizarre situation so that a User can hit his Remote and get to the Top-Menu?

I don't want a client to have to deal with this illogical setup.

And before I get asked, yes I have spent a goodly 3 hours in searching and researching here.

TIA

Grazie

This has been discussed in various threads over the last two months in one way or the other..

see this site- http://www.dvd-replica.com/DVD/vtsguide.php

The site can begin to help you delve into why DVD specifications were written (some say in Japanese -originally) and never fully translated by manufacturers, The result is that there was no uniform way to have commands sent through interfaces (such as set-top remotes) to be interpreted. Three variables to say the least- the manufacturer, the version of firmware, and very important as well - the authoring software - inserted script commands, etc.

This has affected DVD set-top players from old to new...interestingly the later Blu-ray specifications attempted to simplify some of the interface issues while at same time introducing whole new operating parameters such as the Javascript authoring. That is why you will see that DVD and Blu-ray authored projects by Sony DVDAPro react with different subsets of oddities.

In the other double-post thread I got some truly useful support.

So, what does everybody here do to deal with this situ?
