For those of you struggling with this bug I have found a way to get out of stuck cursor mode. First I will describe how we get stuck in this mode to begin with.
open a clip in your trimmer then using your left mouse button, drag a selection. Now right click in this selection to get the flyout window to show up. Now without making any selection on the flyout window, left click the media anyplace OUTSIDE of the selection you have made. The preview cursor is now stuck to the pointer.
So here is how to get out of this "mode". Using your right mouse button drag a new selection in the trimmer window. Now left click inside the selection. The cursor should now be free.
