I run Pinnacle and Vegas both on the same machine and have no conflicts. There is no reason that their should be because they both use the Microsoft Drivers.

1.What drivers are you using for your firewire card? Try forcing Windows to use the Microsoft drivers (called "OHCI-Compliant IEEE 1394"), rather than the Via or TI drivers.

2. Where are you sending captured files? Make sure you're going to an A/V drive with lots of space.

3. Make sure you have "minimum file size" unchecked in the Video Capture preferences.

4. Try swapping out your firewire cable.

5. Did your card work OK with your Pinnacle system? If not, you may need to replace the firewire card. Not all are truly OHCI compliant. This is no big deal, mine cost $18 and works perfectly.

I have no trouble capturing with the WindowsMovieMaker or with Pinnecle

The VegasCapture program will not start att all!!
