still photo appears with border

I have some photos emailed to me that I saved to my docs. I imported them into my movie and in the preview window they look fine, but in the video track they have large black borders on top and bottom of the picture. I've tried to zoom by pan/crop, but they still appear. Not sure what to do-go back and save the pictures differently, resize them or what. Thanks

Click the FX on the picture. Click Pan/Crop. The picture will display with a frame and six handles. Notice there is a black area which the picture is not covering. Move a handle in toward the picture until the frame does not include any of the black portion; (click in the middle of the picture to move the frame where you want it) Now the picture will play without black borders.
Hope this helps.

Also try opening Pan/Crop window, right click on the event and select "Match Output Aspect".

G8R J's comment is, of course, correct and you should try that first but if the size and shape is too different from the 4 X 3 format of video you have to adjust the border so it does not include any of the black area. However, if adjusting the border cuts off an important part of the photo consider letting the black borders you spoke of show in your video; you'll find it really isn't so bad.

Actually, the match output aspect ratio always takes care of eliminating the black borders now matter what size or shape the video frame or picture are. There's no more adjusting that needs to be done, unless of course, as you say, you want to show more of the picture and leave the bars there.

Great suggestions. I ended up just rendering the way it was and the finished product DID NOT show the borders. Like I said when I would preview it, it showed it w/o border, but when I watched from the video track, the border was in. I'm going to work with the ideas given and just learn more about the system, so thank you for your responses.
