Stills to fill frame

I've checked everywhere and even read the manual!!!! I have alot of still photos that I'm incorporating into a video, actually it looks great except the black area around the photos. I have all my photos in the same format and file size. I'm sure there is a button to push that will make it so that my output to TV is full screen rather than just a photo stuck in the middle of the screen with black on each side. I would appreciate any help...thanks in advance

You can "stretch video to fill frame" when you render and this will reshape your pictures to fill the entire image. But this probably isn't what you want. It will just stretch the pictures horizontally and everyone will end up looking short & fat.

If your pictures don't match the proper aspect ratio for the project, then Video Factory will size them to fit completely in the frame and fill in black where the shape doesn't match. This is what you're seeing. To get a picture that fits perfectly, it has to be 655x480 pixels (for DV) or 640x480 pixels (for multimedia) or some equivalent ratio.

If you don't want to re-edit your pictures, you can use the pan/crop tool to crop the frame rectangle down so that it is entirely within your picture. You will loose some of the top and bottom of your picture then.

Also keep in mind that if your final destination is television, then TV screens don't show about 10% of the edges of the video frame. Any part of the picture that is close to the edge won't be visible on a TV screen.

Thanks Chienworks for the advice, it makes sense!!! I tried resizing my photos and making them 655 pixels, I changed this setting on my scanner for my resolution on the output. I then took a pic and put it in the timeline and checked my video preview and it still showed black around the edges. I realize it's something I'm doing. I guess I need almost a step by step instruction on how to get these pictures in the correct format :( I can tear a computer apart and put it back together blindfolded, but can't make a picture fit on a TV screen :) Thanks

You said you made them 655 pixels wide, but how high where they? If they weren't 655x480, then you'll still have your problem. You have to have the proper ratio, not just the proper size. 1310x960 or 3165x2400 would work fine, as long as you have the correct proportions. If your pictures are too wide, resize them so that they are 480 pixels high and then crop them to 655 wide. If they're too tall, then size them to 655 wide and crop them to 480 high.

Or just use the pan/crop too to resize the frame rectangle to be completely inside the picture.

But rather than stretch or expand the picture and lose some of the image, utilize the black area by creating a textured background that complements the picture. On the elements disk that comes with VF, there are some nice backgrounds that can be looped and maybe muted a bit to enhance the pictures.
