Stop Quick Time Task at startup?

mrp wrote on 5/1/2003, 9:25 AM
Every time I launch VV 4.0, Quick Time shows up in my system tray. If I go into the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) and uncheck QuickTime Task (qttask.exe) and reboot, it will go away... until I launch VV and then it will show up next time I boot my computer.

I understand that VV needs QT to run properly, but does it need to add it as a startup item? Is there any way to stop VV from doing this?

Are you sure it's Vegas that is doing it? It doesn't on my computer.

Just rename qttask.exe to something else like qttask.exe.bak. Works for me.

I don't know why Apple decided to do that but I think that Quicktime (non-Pro) has just moved past Real One as "Most Annoying Player" thanks to it's constant nag screen and systray icon that refuses to die. Plus no fullscreen playback of Quicktime files (which Real One offers!).

Goto the control panel, the quicktime options, broswer settings, and uncheck the option labeled "Quicktime System Tray Icon." that'll do it!

I don't think it is VV doing it because I have never had the Qt try load up because of VV, or any other program for that matter. What has already been said is probably the best best - go to the Qt control planel and uncheck the "Quicktime system tray icon" box.

Actually, now I don't think its VV doing it. I rebooted my computer and QT showed up before I opened Vegas. I can't figure out where it is coming from.

I took Happy Friars advise and went into the Control Panel/QT settings... but there is no option labeled "Quick Time System Tray".

So now I am really confused.

Right click on the QuickTime icon in your system tray and select Quick Time Preferences. Then uncheck Quick Time system tray icon, which should permanently remove it from your system tray.

I just updated to QT 6.1 and found the system tray option. Thank you all.
