Stopping Chapter Selection

Having searched through the archieve and found nothing, this may be something no one's asked before, so here goes...

I've used an Introduction Media to my DVD, which has worked perfectly. However, I don't want the end user to be able to skip through it using chapter selection. Being able to fast forward wouldn't be a problem but chpater selection means they jump straight into the main feature, missing the index completely - something I want to disable

Is this possible in DVD-A?

Veggie Dave,

If I understand your question correctly, you want the intro piece (the first play asset you set with the preferences in DVD-A) to be a 'forced' first play, like the FBI warnings. A forced first play prohibits the viewer from jumping/skipping ahead. You can't do this directly from DVD-A, but you can with DVD-A and ifoedit.

I would make your first play message/intro a short video clip (because it's easier to find the asset when you do the next step rather than a still). Complete your dvd project in DVD-A as you normally would, and compile the disc into the video_ts and audio_ts folders. Now you would use ifoedit to 'fix' it so that it will prohibit user functions (ie they can't skip viewing it) for your first play.

Open IfoEdit and and click on 'open' on the lower left hand corner and look for the VTS_01_0.IFO file and select it. At the top of ifoedit you will see a lot of headings, double click to select the VTS_PGCITI (Video title set program chain information table) and its sub-headings. You should see under it the VTS_PGC_1 or first play program chain. Click on that once to select it, and down below you will see some descriptive information regarding it, including something called 'Prohibited user operations'. Double click on the prohibited user operations, and a pop up box will appear. Check the boxes for what ever option you don't want your viewer to be able to do and save the new ifo file.

Go and burn your disc via a third party burning app like Prassi and that should do it.
