Strange Recording Problem

after installing an soundcard (SB PCI), the audio recording seems to be broken in vegas. the recorded audio data isn't in sync with the audio that is played back while recording. in fact, it is even at another tempo!

when I record a track of a 2 minute song, for example, the end of block that shows the currently recorded wave data (in vegas 3.0), is not in sync with the cursor line.

first I thought that it is an performance issue, but increasing the playback buffering in preferences doesn't help.

pc: P4 2.4 Ghz, 256 MB RAM
soundcard: SB PCI
os: Windows 2000
version: Vegas Video 3.0

thanks for any hint..

sounds like sample rates aren't matching up between Vegas and what the sound card is thinking/doing. check 'em all.

The SB PCI is not capable of starting input and output synchronously. Most higher end cards permit the input and output to start synchronously which will avoid this problem.

You can try the following:

From the Audio Preferences page in Vegas, select the advanced button. You will see the Record Latency settings.

Disable (uncheck)

"Automatically detect and offset for hardware recording latency"

If you recording is off, then return to this setting page and adjust the record latency offset manually. Note that the max you can adjust the record latency is by +/- 20 milliseconds. This may not be enough to account for the lack of synchronous start and stop between input and output with the SB PCI.
