Stream attributes can not be read

Can anyone explain to me what this means? I was trying to copy a .avi file that I downloaded to cd by using Video Factory but if says the stream attributes can not be read. I looked the help menu under troubleshooting and this is the entry:

Why does my .avi file open in Windows Media Player but not in VideoFactory?

Some newer .avi files have attributes that make them unreadable by applications that don't support what is known as DX AVI. These files are usually compressed with a DV codec. They might also be larger than the standard AVI file limit of 4 Gigabytes. VideoFactory does not currently support these files.

Please let me know if anyone does know hoe I can get this file copied and/or convert to be copied to CD in a VCD file format or something readable on a DVD player.

Thanks in advance

A litter confusing for sure.

from Video Factory help, under troubleshooting:

I think what is meant by that is VF don't support DX AVI, not that it can't (it does) support larger AVI files IF you have your drive formatted with the NTFS file system, which is supported by Windows XP for example.

I'm also guessing as to what you meant. I'm assuming you download some DX video from the web and want to burn it as a VCD, SVCD or XVCD. If that's what you want to do, then visit http://www.vcdhelp.com they have a very active forum, (it went back online awhile ago now) and they also have a ton of how-to help.

I don't think you'll be able to edit a DX file in VF unless you first convert it to plain AVI. You may be able to find help at the site I mentioned. I myself have never tried it.
