street video

i shoot quite a bit of street video, clips of random nonsense. but there's not much i can do with the footage unless i happen to capture something interesting. anyone have any idea what could be done with it? developing some kind of loose documentary plot is all i can think of. however, that stands very little chance of making money, unlike street photography, which can be framed as art.

Get some voiceover contrasting what you see in the frame. Could be political statements, could be poetry or song lyrics. Could be dialogue.
Viewers will look for meaning in the frames you present, and try to establish a connection with the words. Don't dissapoint them, but don't make it too obvious either.

Just a thought -- hook up with a garage band and put some original music behind your clips. Where I'm at the indies eat up street music videos, just make sure to have your agreements in writing before you release, just in case it sells ;)

Statas,

It would be easier if we could see some of the footage that you take to get a feel for it. Maybe you could post a couple minutes on chienworks' site.

Aside from that, I like the idea of putting it to music from a local band. Maybe you could mix it with footage of the band playing. Since most of your street footage is probably from your local area, it would fit nicely with a local band. -Shon

those are good ideas, thanks. i know some bands. let me see what i can develop. if i had time, i'd think it be funny to go produce some of those cheap commericals for local business, like pawn shops and used car dealers. really tweak the cheese factor.
