Stripping out and saving audio track

I would like to remove and save the audio track from a video for use in another project - I assume I can do this in VNS and have been able to copy just the audio track -but not sure how to convert it into a file that I can use later. Not even sure if I have to and can not just paste it where I need it ??

File->Render As->Save as Type->WAV

Project>Render As>Save as type>(whatever audio type you need, e.g. .wav, .mp3, .aa3, etc.)
