Stuck at 'Scanning for VST plug-ins...100%" when trying to launch

Hello,

My friend has recently downloaded Vegas Suite 22, he is using Windows 11 Pro. After installing everything, he cannot launch Sony Vegas as it is constantly getting stuck at 'Scanning for VST plug-ins...100%" when tryin to launch. He tried reinstalling (after deleting everything) and restarting his PC but it is still showing the same error as shown in the screenshot here.

This is a known issue, caused by third-party VST plugins that are either noncompliant or incompatible with Vegas.

Unless VP22 has a log somewhere that shows where it got stuck, about the only thing you can do is rename them individually with something like *.vstOLD until you isolate the culprit and it lets the application start.

Your VST Plugins folders are listed in Preferences, so you can identify possible culprits from the list.

Thank you so much, where would I find the 'Preferences' section you mentioned? Is it somewhere in Windows or Vegas itself?

The preferences are within VEGAS so won't help if the software doesn't open. You could try temporarily renaming the VST folder or moving VSTs out until you figure out which one is the issue (as stated above).

How would I move the VST files out? Also, which VST folder do I rename?

VST plugins could be held in one or more of the following folders:

  • C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

I recall that there also was in the past:

  • C:\Program Files\VstPlugins
  • C:\Program Files (x86)VstPlugins

... but those folders aren't appearing in my current Windows 11 installation.

You'd go to Windows Explorer and look at the folders in the helpful screenshot above from Mark-Y. See if there are VSTs in them. If so, consider temporarily moving them or renaming the folder itself.

They've renamed all the folders. The issue is still there, so not what's going on at this point.

Renamed all of those folders and the issue still persists :(.
