<SOLVED -- by installing QUICKTIME >
Just bought MovieStudio12, installed it, registered it, updated to latest version from Sony website. But I still cannot even run it. When I try to start Movie Studio it displays splash screen and immediately crashes "creating file I/O manager".
Problem Description
Application Name: Movie Studio Platinum
Application Version: Version 12.0 (Build 1183)
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
Fault Module: C:\Program Files\Sony\Movie Studio Platinum 12.0\MovieStudioPlatinum120.exe
Fault Address: 0x08DDBB89
Fault Offset: 0x08DDBB89
I've tried all the suggestions I could find in this forum. I've submitted error reports to SONY and raised a support ticket (but haven't paid for support).
Can anyone suggest what to try next, and where the problem might lie? I assume it is my hardware....

OK, now solved by installing Apple QuickTime. Suggestion to SONY; couldn't the start up software check and give a helpful error message in this case?
