Yes, I know there are differences in opinion on the use of such devices, both physical and digital.

The purists will say that *any* modification of the sound by these devices is bad. Others say it works well (used in moderation)

I have a physical device in the rack of one of my portable sound systems. I think it sounds good and I've gotten compliments on how much better it sounds than another sound system costing four times as much.

Years and years ago (in another life) I worked in a disco night club when these devices first came out. After being there for a couple of years they installed one in the club and *everyone* (including me) was amazed at the difference in the sound ... MUCH, MUCH better (to our ears at least)

I think it goes back to the day when Aphex and BBE were new , and got stuck on ecverything whether is needed it or not, resulting in hugely over-bright crass sounding stuff.

I've only ever used it a few times to rescue otherwise unrepeatbale stuff, mostly originating from elsewhere. Otherwise I'm in the fortunate position, in most of my work, of being able to treat problems at the source and (hopefully) get it right ;-)

Yeah the studios I worked in back in the 80's had the hardware BBE maximizers, I overused it on more than a few mixes back then. I now try to head the 'less is more'.
