Stupid Question ...

Hate to even ask.

Used to be to do a simple mask ya click the little arrow up. Seems if I recall correctly, when ya did a mask that way it just did it to that one layer and didnt affect the layers below it. I cant figure out the new little arrows and am not getting the same results as I used to get.

Please keep it simple, I've feeling rather dumb.

Ok, basically it works the same way, however you need to drop the Mask generator plugin on the mask track :

Let's say you have 3 tracks, first one is your mask, second is the shot you want to mask and third is your background.

You need to set track 2 to be a child of track 1. Then apply the mask generator as a track fx to track 1. Finally, set the composite mode of track 1 to Multiply (mask).

So lastly, is there a way to still show the fourth layer below it ? What I'm trying to do is have like a stock chart with peeks unveil from right to left over another image.

On a quick test, here's what I tried:

Mask on track 1 (I used a text generated media & checkerboard generated media)
Video to show in WHITE area on track 2
Video to show in background on track 3

Press the Parent/Child arrow on Track 2 (now on the right-hand side)

Change the Compositing Mode of track 1 (the one to the RIGHT of the levels slider) to Mask (Multiply)

If necessary, add a Mask Generator effect to track 1.

Check out the California User's Group, they just put out a downloadable video of the NAM paresentation of Vegas. It covers how to use the new features. It is very helpful.

The vid was great and helped a lot. Still though, I need the layer below all that to show through.

First Layer > Mask ( in this case a jaged graph line )
Second Layer > Covers the third Layer ( to make the graph appear )
Third Layer > Red Generated Media ( to make the graph red as it appears )
Fourth Layer > The background over which I want the graph to appear

Ive got the graph working, revealing from left to right, but can I make the fourth layer the background.

Sorry if I'm just not getting it.
