Stupid Question.

Hello friends,

I'll chime in with my bi-annual dumb question here. How long does the trial last.. If I already have a full version of 10.. want to see if ít's worth upgrading.. I can't find where it says how long the demo would last.

oh, and is it worth upgrading? I'm running smooth right now but am always looking to grow the horizon.

Thanks all,

Joshua

If you are thinking of upgrading to VP11/12, then check to see if your video card - NVIDIA 9200 265 - is available for the features in VP11/12.

The trial, as others say, is 30 days. Unlike previous trial, there is a watermark overlaid on the rendered video.

Remember, VP12 is 64bit only, so if you have only a 32bit OS, forget about VP12.

I've upgraded from VP10; even with my modest GPU, I am seeing better timeline performance. For me, there is no benefit in rendering because I render only to MPEG2 for DVD.

Nevertheless, there are other benefits in VP12 - there is a slew of enhancements that make editing a pleasure once again. Shortcuts for trimming, J and L cuts, fades applied to multiple clips at ones, to name by three.

I've not had any problems with stability (other than when I use New Blue Titler, but the latest revision of that seems to have cured the issues).

Overall I am impressed with Vegas once again. I think SCS has done a pretty good job, considering the problems with VP11 (despite those in denial, VP11 was a disaster).

That has wider implications e.g. 32bit plugins may well not work.
Remember those quite nice, free, iZotopes mastering plugins we got with Vegas a few years back? No go in 64 bit versions of Vegas.

Also the special $139 ends at the end of October.

"(despite those in denial, VP11 was a disaster)."

It is not a denial thing. Vegas 11 for many is/was a disaster and was so on my system at times but I eventually got my system such that Vegas 11 works great on it. I know others were not able to. No crashes at all on my system but then my needs are low and easy so I probably do not do enough to crash Vegas 11.

Vegas 12 is a bit sub par in performance on my system especially with GPU use. I am working on no longer needing the GPU so that problem will soon be gone.

THE TRIAL DOES NOT LAST 30 DAYS! The trial of all of SCS is 15 days.

Thank you for all the answers. I appreciate the feed back. I'll have to check out my graphics card. I did just check out my system specs and realize they were completely outdated (it has been a while. wow). But I am now in the modern age with a very decent laptop that works wonderfully with V10.

I use vegas quite a bit for projects so I might just upgrade for the $139. Does anyone know if I get 12, can I run them both at the same time? How bad would it screw things up if I installed 12.. had issues and went back to 10? any idea?

Thanks for your time.

Different versions of Vegas normally coexist quite nicely. I've had four different versions installed all at the same time and all were functional.

However, do note that once you've saved a .veg project file in a newer version you can *never* open it in an older version again. So, before opening your version 10 projects in 12, make sure you make backup copies first!
