Sub clips for sorting and identification

I'm about to jump into a project with over 25 hours of teeny weeny little 20 second interviews.
I'd like to be able to categorize these interviews, individually, from longer takes.
That is:
I've got a 2 minute interview with Joe - at one point he sez, "Vegas is the best". I'd like to be able to create a folder of "Vegas quotes", identify the exact in and out on Joe, label it, and drag it into this discrete folder.
In the AVID MC, this is called a subclip, and it's easy.
Is there any way to do this in Vegas or some other specialty logging program that will work with Vegas?
Thanx in advance for your input.

In Vegas, you would create regions in the trimmer and name them properly. Save the regions in the trimmer. Now when you go to the Vegas Explorer window, turn ON the "Region View"

I was faced with a similar situation (hundreds of short volleyball sequences that needed to be put into a four minute music video). I looked at all the workflow suggestions, and then found a way that uses a script and some little used (at least by me) features. The combination works really well.

Here's the link to the script and the description of what it does and how to use it:

Preview, then name regions using listbox dialog

For a limited time, I've put the script (along with a few others), in a zip file that you can download here:

For some reason I am having a problem saving the regions in the Trimmer.
When I try to, I'm getting a "systme low on memory" error.
Highly doubtful - have 512M RAM and nothing else open.
Suggestions?

Downloaded John's file and it works great, for silent clips -
does anyone have a suggestion for categorizing interviews where the various clips could be played and labeled by sound reference?

You could always try the Extract Good Clips option in Tsunami.

I had, I think, a similar challenge (see http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=232716).

Good luck.

What is Tsunami and where do you find it?

I have Tsunami but have not made use of this particular function. How is Extract Good Clips in Tsunami different from using the Trimmer tool? Wouldn't you have to use about the same number of mouse or keyboard moves to achieve the same thing? Is there an advantage to using the Tsunami version? Thanks very much for providing clarification.

There are many similarities and differences. With extract good clips, you are working straight on the timeline without the trimmer. With Tsunami, when you are finished, the clips you want will be on the timeline ready to be used. With the trimmer, you would then have to add each of the clips to the timeline individually. However, with the trimmer, you can see the regions in the explorer window. I hardly ever use the trimmer so Extract Good Clips matches my workflow.
