Sub-titles added on DVD can be selected when watching. The watchers can select with sub-tiles or without subsitles. How to make the selection availabe when editing with Vegas 7:0 ?
You can't as far as I know.
This is done as part of the DVD authoring process, DVDA supports it.
You can create Regions in Vegas which DVDA will the import as a subtitle track but for multiple subtitle tracks you'd need multiple projects, one for each language.
The other thing is I recall some issue with Vegas's regions and unicode.
The way I've done it is to build a .sub file from a spreadsheet and let DVDA import that.
You're saying that you want to view the subtitles while editing? Lots of people want to work this way but DVDA is actually the tool for the job because it's the DVD that supports the feature.
There are also ways to make WMV files work with subtitles in a dynamic way, but I don't think it's easy. Been a while since I looked at it.
There is also (or so I've read) a way to feed virtualdub a video file and a subtitle file and have it print subtitles into the picture.
One of the problems with trying to author subtitles in the NLE is that the text file it would output would require timecode in it. Timecode becomes a relative thing if you are rendering regions out of the overall timeline. On the other hand, making subtitles in DVDa isn't relative - they start counting time from the beginning of the video.
This is not to say it couldn't be done in some future release of Vegas, and it's certainly everyone's first inclination, but it's DVDa that's built to handle subtitles.
What I mean is -
I know how to make subitles on a video by creatiing text over the event. By then after that the output file is always come with the text simultaneusly. How can I make them separated, so that I can choose with text on or without the text on when viewing the DVD output file using a DVD machine?
