What happens after the year subscription runs out. does it stop working? or is it pretty much like it is now with no updates as version 19 is? I never minded purchasing every year, just wondering if this amounts to the same thing.

Thge 3rd FAQ states about what happens if the subscription is no longer active:
After a subscription ends, you will not be able to continue using the software. You can of course buy the latest version at any time in the form of a perpetual license. However, this means you will not be able to avail of more recently released features or other benefits offered by the subscription model.
so I can still buy version 20 like I did 19 without a year subscription, I did not see the option.

I have no way of knowing and I doubt that the Vegas team would publicly release their planning schedule.
yeah, they never have.. if they update every once in a while it would be fine as the start of the version is usually a little buggy

The release history gives a good hint as to update schedule. I'd bet it will be similar to 19.

I would imagine that it would. I can't help myself I guess I will get version 20 and deal with the bugs
