I just finished a 50-minute project. The source video came from three disimilar camcorders - one Digi8, one Hi8, one very fine but aging 8mm (the most expensive cam I've ever purchased - sound capability still rivals the best out there, and it's set-up to accept two RCA input mikes, level meters/manual gain control, etc - its video capability is getting a bit long in the tooth, however).
Anyhow, I finished this project, using the PCM sound track from the 8mm cam as the sound master and selecting desired shots from each of the three cams to create the video master. I used the Digi8 to capture everything, including the two non-digital video tracks. I know from past experience that non-digital 8mm footage always looks better if I dub it to a digi8 tape prior to capture, but, because I was anxious to complete this project (so my kids would have something to take back to school with them), I skipped this step (would have involved four more hi8 cassetes and two additional hours to do the dubbing).
I am pleased with the final product (and, more importantly, my kids are really pleased), but found that I had to tweak the non-digital video footage a bit to make it look even respectable when compared to the digital scenes (I adjusted contrast/brightness and HSL).
Now that the pressure to finish this project in a rush has subsided, I'd like to recapture the non-digital footage from digi8 dubbed tapes.
My question (sorry it took so long to get to this point): Can you think of a way I could somehow rename the captured files so that I could substitute them for the original media files in my project and, thus, avoid the need to re-edit the entire project?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
