Subtitle export

Hi,

The subtitle track can be exported. But it seems to be a binary file.
Is there any editing tool for this file format?

For translation it would be good to have an external tool that could read and write the .sub format so one could import the translation into a new subtitle track and the same time locations.

Encore use an open format that allows this.

Open the exported subtitles in Notepad, and File/ Save AS -- but change the encoding to ANSI.

You can use Subtitle Workshop to save in the format of "Mac DVD Studio Pro" or also "SonicDVDCreator"

If it helps, there are a bunch of sub tools out there, & most are free -- they include a few that specialize in making translation easier.

For general editing, spell checking etc, once you have them in the Studio Pro Txt format DVDA accepts, Word works very well. Probably the most common format for text subs is .srt - .sup for graphics based.

FWIW personally don't see much use for exporting subs in DVDA -- DVDA works extremely well for syncing, creating graphical sub tracks, previewing, but for creating there are much better programs out there.

I intend to make the EN version "by hand", then exporting and translation into 3 other langs (done by translators), proof it in Word or similar, and then import into 3 new subtitle tracks - one for each lang. Should work (I hope). I don't care much for copying then EN track and then editing each subtitle even with info from translators. I hope it will work automatically, to 99.9% at least.
