Subtitles

Hi,

I just started using the Sony software and I have a question about the DVD Architect. The Pinnacle software I was using allowed me to insert fancy "title overlays" that would scroll up the screen. There were a lot of different fonts and colors that allowed you to be very creative.

Does the Sony Vegas 5 or DVD Architect have any similar features? All I can find so far is insert text. Frankly it's pretty boring. The other option appears to be subtitles. But the button to add a subtitle track is not active for some reason.

Here's a screen shot of what I'm talking about:

Thanks,

So, which are you trying to do...title overlays or subtitles? Title overlays, you would add to your video in Vegas using the media / text generator. Insert a track above your video's track, select the Media Generator tab, and select Text from the list. Drag a text template to your new track and edit away.

The insert text feature in DVDA is for adding text to menus, not to video. And you have just as many font / color options as you did in Pinnacle Studio. After you insert a text item, click on it once, and you'll get a toolbar for formatting the text. Fonts on the left, color selector on the right, and other formatting buttons between them.

But the button to add a subtitle track is not active for some reason.

Since your screenshot only shows a small portion of the screen, I can't be sure about this, but I suspect you brought your video in as a menu background instead of as a media object. This would explain why none of the other standard track / event buttons are active either -- because they're not relevant to menus.
