Well .. that's a new one for me! - I can now Print To Tape from within VidCap . . I couldn't for the life of me get this to work within V5. And no, I don't want to tempt fate and try V5 again . ..thank YOU very much!

I'm real pleased . .. .

Grazie

What is the performance advantage of PTT within Vid Cap?

>>> What is the performance advantage of PTT within Vid Cap?<<<

I can't speak for Vegas 5 or 6 but in Vegas 4 outputting to tape using the VidCap mod allowed for more overhead. It came to me via a SoFO post because I couldn't get a 24p output from the timeline. I was told it happened every now and then because during a PTT the CPU is doing a real time pulldown. Outputting from the VidCap mod somehow lowered the overhead and I never had any further issues with 24p "PTT" output after I started using VidCap.

Beyond the 24p issue it is one of those things where using VidCap might be better because you have several chunks of a project and you really don't want to start a new Edit session just for output - with Vidcap you just drag what you want over and hit play.

Down side is that VidCap only will output the same exact type of files at the same time. In otehr words if you have a 24p Dv file it will nopt output aloing side of a 30p file and so on. Also it is finicky about outside renders - taking a 24p render from Premiere may not play alongside of one from Vegas. Thusly you are back to the timeline for that.

if you want to really great little program that will take mixed media and output check out Video2DV. If your system is up to it it can even take raw M2t files and downconvert them to DV on the fly and output to tape. Toss 24p, 29 and 15 fps Avi, Mpg and even low res indeo files into this program and it will all output. Also does real time slide shows from images. Cost is under 30 dollars US.
