Success with USB-2 HD

I had so many time-outs on my brand new ADS firewire HD, that I got a USB-2 External box and installed the 120GB WD HD from the ADS box to the USB-2 box. The same material, which caused a timeout about every minute or so of playback on the ADS box, has been playing without any problem on the USB-2 box. Nothing was changed on the HD. The Firewire box captured video flawlessly, but gave endless timeouts during playback. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Yes, thanks for the information. Let us know if any problems surface with this newer standard.

when the WD was in the firewire did you have the jumpers set to SINGLE (not master).

WD 120's were so-so in my firewire cases so i put them in as internal and put maxtors in the firewire cases and all is well ...

for USB do you have the WD jumpers set to master or single ?

>>>WD jumpers set to master or single ?

M/S/C = Master / Slave / Cable Select

all my latest WD / Maxtor drives don't have 'single' settings...?

Actually, that's interesting that you should bring that up, db.
I can NOT find my original instructions for my FireVue box, but I could have sworn it said to use the Dual Master setting, which never made any sense! I MAY have had trouble with my WD when it was in the box(using that setting), but awhile back I went ahead and changed it to SINGLE (jumper neutral storage position, and put some projects back over on it as an "ongoing" test, and all is well......so far. There may have been other variables involved, but maybe time will tell.

Thanks

on WD 120gig drives jump pins 6 & 4 for single , 3 & 4 slave, 1 & 2 cable select,
6 & 5 master

back of drive pins are numbered

interface cable 9 7 5 3 1 power input
interface cable 10 8 6 4 2 power input

pyro only recommends the WD as SINGLE - all other drives MASTER

I went ahead and fixed a typo on my previous post.
