sudden AVI problems with VV3

I tried to open up a vegas project I've been working on for the past month today, and the AVI files wearn't showing video (just audio). I recently re-istalled win2k and vegas, and have narrowed down my problem to the fact that I don't have a codec I had before I formatted my drive (even though I think I re-stalled all the ones I could think of).

Is there any way to find out what the codec is on an existing AVI file, even if you don't have that codec installed? thanks!

Right-click on the file, click Properties, and it will list all the encoding information, including the compressor.

I tried that, all it doesn't show that: it just shows name, witdth/height, length, frame count, frame rate, and data rate (along with the audio info). I tried right clicking on divx encoded video's and it shows the compressor on them, but not the ones i need.

abcAVI is a useful tool for investigating this sort of information about AVIs. Have a look at http://abcavi.tk
