Suggestions for improving VV3

Naughtybird wrote on 5/17/2002, 4:44 PM
1. I´m really missing a method for building up bins in the media folder.
2. I can use the spacebar for Stop/Pause action. I would find it much better if it would jump back to it´s earlier position after another spacebar pressure, so that i could use spacebar as a pause and and at the same time as a rejump function.

Is this forum where we should voice our requests for Vegas Video improvements? Or is there some more "official" way of suggesting an improvement?

One thing I noticed is that the VV3 frame grab function gives you only two choices for saving the image, JPG and PNG. JPG is lossy, and is being replaced by the better looking JP2 (JPEG-2000) which is based on wavelet technology instead of JPG's outmoded discrete cosine transform (DCT). PNG is a good format, but like JP2 is not yet widely adopted.

I would think that a third choice of the lossless Windows bitmap format, BMP, would be helpful. I actually have a few software applications that can only use BMP. One is an image stitching program. Of course, I can change from PNG to BMP externally. But I would prefer to have the option to save directly as a BMP, because I tend to make numerous frame grabs and any extra steps add significantly to my work load.

Hi,

I know about changing the spacebar functionality.
With my suggestion (which is used in nuendo and wavelab) you would make a 2 function spacebar to a 3 function one. This isn´t bad, everybody could need it.

I never use media pool. Just use explorer and you can create as many sub folders as you like. Drag and drop to the timeline.

Another addition I'd like to see would be the ability to choose any frame from a captured clip to use as a display in the media pool rather than just the first frame. This way you can select a frame that is more likely to convey the true contents of each clip.

Can't you just use ENTER for pause and SPACEBAR for rejump function?

I'll be a... You are right. Spacebar/Enter works. Learn something new all the time.

Thanks Luxo.

That sounds like a good idea.

Hi buddies,

thanks for the advice, but although I´m new to VV3 I already found out about "Enter/Pause".
When I´m new to a software the first thing I´m doing is to navigate trough the timeline. So I search for all related functions, and what I can say to VV3 it´s absolutely straightforward.
By why not take something that others invented better? And this 2* Spacebar is better, although it is from Nuendo/Cubase/Wavelab. You don´t have to look to the keyboard.
For a firm that invented the great "JKL" function this should be easy to program.

Ready to learn something new every day.

One thing.

when I started this topic I didn´t know about the suggestion side on this site.
thanks for giving me a hint to that.
Anyway I don´t like it to write into this, because other users won´t ever see it.
I think Sonic is looking after the forums regularly, so they know about the talking here and hear our suggestions, even if they are written here.

yes but you can't count on them remembering it. to be on the safe side, post it here AND on the product suggestion page. then they won't have any excuses! :)
