Other than a fruit - what's "Apple"? . .. .

Good one Grazie. ;-)

I’ve never used FCP because I don’t have a Mac, but when Spot was in NYC doing the VASST training, there were a couple of FCP users at the demo session the night before with their jaws on the floor. I think it was safe to say that Vegas blew them away because a few of them showed up for the training the next day and kept saying “I didn’t know you could do that with an NLE?” a LOT!

I think when Spot dropped several different types of video media (including different frame rates) on the timeline and it played back flawlessly in real-time, they realized that FCP was no match for Vegas when working with multiple format media.

So I would say Vegas is as good or better.

I have spent alot of time on FCP lately. I like it. But, Vegas has it beat on things like keyframing and track motion. Haven't used DVD Studio Pro but want to learn it. I hear it is nice. I am a pc guy. That is why I prefer Vegas. But, FCP does NOT suck by any means. It is a great product. But, for me, Vegas is better.

Do yourself a favor if you are in this industry as more than a hobby. Learn both.

beerandchips,

I'm curious as to what you think of the FCP workflow. Is it more like Avid than Vegas? I've only had limited time in front of FCP, but it seems more 'constrictive' and less 'free-flow' in terms of how tactile the interface is. Like for me, I just can't use Avid, I just don't get it at all. I'd be interesting in hearing a Vegas user's thoughts on FCP work flow and interface.

Thanks.

One of the best things about FCP is the nested timelines. I find the workflow good. The trimmer is exellent. I don't want to really talk about FCP on this site because I respect this site too much. But, don't be fooled by all of the mac and fcp bashing here. It is a great product. That said, If you use pc based system, get Vegas. If mac, get FCP.
Avid sucks big time. I got sick of Premiere on 6.0 and Liquid Edition, well, it is Pinnacle (enough said).

One other thing. The codec used in Vegas is OUTSTANDING. Keep that in mind.
