Your black backgrounds are probably because you need to turn on the ALPHA channel in Vegas or the exporting application.

First of all, make sure you are exporting an uncompressed 32 bit AVI with Alpha channel. Most applications require that you choose this. It is not a dsefault setting.

Second, once you bring the clip into Vegas, right click on the clip in the media pool or the event on the timeline. Select Properties. At the bottom of the dialog box is a selection for Alpha channel. Select the type. Normally this is set to none. The black background should now go away.

I have had fairly good luck with Xara 3D5. It is cheap and works. Go to Xara.com to check it out. They have a free demo to download and try.

Excellent advice thus far.
Anyone else got other programs to suggest?

I use Vegas for pretty much all my basic titling and if I need something very complex I just double click on AE---the combo is perfect.

I've been using Power CG from Cayman Graphics for years now and find its feature set, ease of use and speed is superior to Inscriber.

I output native files to my other NLE, but can output TGA's for Vegas, which work very well....

Just a thought.
