Suggestions: Project management and setting properties...

I've been thinking (ouch!) about some ideas which could be implemented to help making life easier for us (especially PAL users)...When new versions of Vegas and DVDA come up, most of the settings are for NTSC by default which makes us Pal people have to worry about changing them all to suit our PAL needs. Couldn't a launch screen be included whereby we can establish our prefered settings for the whole application right after an instal?

A second idea is to do with project management. Another screen where we can set the desired drives folders for a whole project including DVDA would make life so much tidier than have to remember where to direct captures, renders, veg files etc for each new project, especially if you have several drives to play with...

anyone else think this would be useful?

All thoughts of course welcome.

Now if they get rid of that bug in PAL capture land that would be a great start..sort of..Fortunately Sony seem to be onto it...

Regards

Paul.

A script, perhaps?

A script? never thought a script could do all that..
Ok, now I need a crash course on scipting...(is it complicated if one has 0 programming backround?)

thanks!

Scripting is out of my league, with 0 programming background, too.
However, there are a lot of folks generously putting out scripts to make life easier for Vegas users. Most of 'em are free, but some of the more sophisticated ones are available for a nominal fee. It makes Vegas kind of an "open-source" NLE solution.

Try posting your request on the Scripting forum and see if anyone is willing to help out. I know jetdv's Neon scripting add-on includes assett collection for DVD projects, that sounds similar to some of what you're looking for.

The problem with a script might be that a new release tends to change things a bit - hence Excalibur didn't work with V5 off the bat.

But, PDB - I think this is a totally awesome idea!! I'm still setting things up in V5 and each time I touch something, I have to remember whether or not I've set the defaults the way I want them.

I suppose the installer could also be made smart enough to grab yer settings from the previous release as an alternative????

In effect the properties setting is not a huge deal on an day to day situation, but given that Vegas 4 went to 4.e and Vegas 5 and DVDA are on for an upgrade sometime, I can see myself going through Vegas including capture, DVDA to set hings "right"...It would also help those who need flexibility with NTSC /PAL needs...(not sure that affects many but anyway...

The project management drive/folder assignation would be something I think most would use often...

I think the idea of posting in the script forum is a great one...lets give it a try...

See if anything else comes up here too...(here's to hopefulthinking...)

Thanks for your thoughts everyone,

Paul.

Sounds like you're asking for a first-run wizard and then a consolidation of all the media location settings into one prefs tab.

I don't see why a script couldn't do the second one but then I don't write scripts so what would I know?
