Super Black Backgrounds

I purchased animation that has a ssuper black ground as they call. There are instruction on the web site of the animation on how to remove the black in exchange for video overlay. Are there optimal settings for such a thing with VV. I seen settings that in other programs like Final Cut Pro & Premiere that I cant find in VV. What can I do?

If your animation file is already a digital file and has an alpha channel, you can use that for keying, or, you can use the chromakeyer in Vegas and select the super black portion of your frame as the key color.

Super black in the video post world is typically black below 7.5 IRE (and usually wound up as either 0 or -7.5 IRE depending on the equipment) and a luminance keyer was used to strip out everything below broadcast black (7.5). However, I don't know what codec would actually store this illegal color when converting to digital video, so you might run into a little trouble if super black and regular black get squashed to the same value. Post a few more details about the source material and the codec and perhaps we can help you further.

if going to DV then black level is at 0 ire ... so using a DV codec will set black level at 0
