Super-long double render time

Hello,
I read almost all of the posts on here, it's great to see so much help.. thank you. I understand that rendering can be an extreme long process. From posts I have read , the best way to use V5+ is to capture in V5, edit clips, then render to mpeg2. Next, open the mpg file in DVDA and add menus-music etc. Ok, after changes are made it becomes a .DAR file. When everything is completley edited and ready to burn, it takes even longer to render in DVDA than the original V5 render to MPEG with very little changes made in DVDA.
My confusion is this, I thought that once rendered in V5 to mpeg , the project would not have to re-render, or if it did, only would have to render the new additions made in DVDA and would be very fast. Am I doing this in the proper order? and is this very long "double" render normal?
Thanks... James

The most common mistake is to not use one of the DVDA templates when rendering from Vegas. Double check to make sure you selected the DVD Architect NTSC or PAL template.

I first rendered in Dolby Digital AC3 with default template. Next rendered Main Concept MPEG2 for save as, and used NTSC DVDA template.

DVDA shouldn't have re-rendered then - at least it shouldn't have re-rendered the main movie. You might try clicking the optimize button during the prepare dialog and see if DVDA has flagged anything for rendering.
