support complaint and audio problems

jntryan wrote on 12/27/2000, 11:08 AM
My first complaint is with the support for your products.
It seems that it is almost nil and extremely difficult to
get to. I called the support number and all they could do
is tell me a new number to call (where you wanted to charge
me for support) and give me the website for your support.
I went to the website and sent an email last Monday
requesting some additional help with my audio problems. I
was promised a response within 36 business hours and have
yet to get anything back. Do they ever respond?

My next problem is simple. I want to be able to capture a
song track off of my computers CD drive into VideoFactory.
I have not been able to figure out what I need to do define
the system or area I want my audio inputed into. I am also
unable to get audio when I am capturing video. I am not a
computer whiz but the solution shouldn't be that
complicated should it?

It seems that the editing capabilities of the program are
impressive but it also seems very difficult to get anything
into the program to edit.

Hi Jeff...sorry about the support woes...let's see if we
can get you going!! I'll check into recording audio from
your CD player. As for the no audio in captured video,
have you installed and are you using SF Video Capture? You
haven't disabled audio during capture via the Capture
preferences tab (Options menu->Preferences->Capture), have
you? Please answer the following:

Operating System:
DirectX version:
Hard drive type (SCSI/IDE):
Computer:
Capture card:
Camera:

Thanks

You asked a few questions. Answers:
I have installed and I am using the SF Video Capture
program. I was wondering does the SF stand for Sound Forge
and is this the program I am suppose to be using to capture
sound also?
To my knowledge I haven't disabled the audio capture. I
did not check it to make sure but I do no remember doing
that. (I will check it tommorow)

Operating system: Windows ME
Hard Drive: Generic IDE disk type01
Computer: emachines etower 600is
Capture Card: ATI WDM rage theate video capture
Camera: none

I didn't understand the DirectXversion. (lack of user
skill/knowledge) Give me some more info on what exactly
that is and I probably can find out. I am also not sure I
gave you the right info on my hard drive. Does it sound
correct?

As far as I know I do not have the Sound Forge program that
they keep talking about in the manual. I purchased the
VideoFactory program at Best Buy and assumed it contained
the programs I needed to capture video and sound. Was I
mistaken?

Thanks for you help. I really want to make this program
work out.

HI Jeff, the SF simply stands for Sonic Foundry. It's to
be used in conjunction with VideoFactory (Tools menu->Open
Video Capture) to capture audio and video from a capture
source. This application doesn't support just capturing
audio (possibly in a future version), but rather video with
or without audio. Now, no audio being captured with your
video...please make sure the "Capture Audio" Capture
preference is checked. Next, make sure you have the proper
audio source selected on the Audio menu (next to the video
menu) and that the source is really the audio source you
are using. I'm still checking into the CD audio recording,
but recording an audio track in VideoFactory is done by
clicking on the red record button on one of the audio
tracks.

Thanks!

Hi Jeff, as I said before, audio recording in VF is done
via the audio track's red record button. It only uses the
system's Sound Mapper that is setup in the Sounds and
Multimedia control panel as the Preferred Device under
Sound Recording (at least under Win2k) so it may work if
set up the physical device as the preferred recording
device. Then you'll need to double click on the speaker
icon in the Start menu bar to bring up the Volume control,
goto Options menu->properties choose the device and then
select the Recording option. Not you should be able to
select which input you want to use (CD Player, Microphone,
or Line IN). Your other option is to use our Siren product
to rip the audio off the CD into an MP3 or WAV file and
then load that into VF.

Good Luck!
