Orca, just a guess on my part, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Besides, you have no control whatsoever over mixing, and that is at the foundation of surround sound! This appears to record a coded quasi surround track that is decoded by the user's home theater system, how I don't know.

If your cam supports 4 channels, yes.
Caveat is, it's a VERY cheap mic, and in 4 channel mode, most camcorders are 32K 12 bit anyway, so it will sound pretty weak. Don't plan on making any blockbusters or even really great audio with this one.

From my understanding, it will work on 2 channels, but I guess I need to read more about it. My thought was, if that works well, I could get at least a pretty good ambience in surround, and save myself of some work in mixing the background audio. But again, I'm still very skeptical about it and will rather wait on some reviews about it. Just searched on the net, and there was no single review available and I know this mic has been out for a while.

Thanks for the input Spot & Jay!

BTW, Spot.. I've got your Vegas training DVD for a while now, but forgot to mention it to you. I really enjoyed what I've seen so far (haven't finished it), esp. helpful is the masking. Just need some time to put it into practice. Good going there!

If you want a surround mic lookup the Omniphone, I'll see if I can get more details. This beast can output upto 6 channels. The thing is modelled on the human head. I'm guessing it's expensive and you'd need something like the HHB ot Fostex recorder.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the info. If it's going to be expensive, I'll probably stick on the mixing all the elements in Vegas since the purpose of the mic is for background sound anyways. I still need to mix the main elements anyway as there's no shortcut to this one process. :)
