Surround Mixing

I have both Vegas 5.0 and DVD Arch 2.0. I have a Digital Audio Labs CardDeluxe sound card which does not have surround input or output. Can I still create surround mixes with Vegas 5.0 (putting multiple audio files on the timeline) and if so, how do I go about doing this? I have surround playback in my living room and burn to DVD+RW for previewing DVDs. Thank you in advance. Bob Kroeger

Bobby, without a Surround Sound card and speakers, you're going to be really hard pressed to mix accurately for Surround. It would be kind of like trying to do color correction on a black & white monitor.

I think it is certainly possible but not convenient. I guess it depends on the kind of project you're doing, but after a while you will get a feel for where the surround levels should be.

A 4 or 6 channel sound card can be as little at $15, and surround self-powered speakers another $20. So you can get your feet wet for very little money.
