Surround pan keyframing not working!

HELP!! I have been working on this project for a long time, and now I have a deadline coming up!
In Vegas 4 the surround keyframes would show a trail from one keyframe to the next. In Vegas 5 there is no trail, and whatever keyframe I adjust in that track, makes all the other keyframes exactly the same!!!! I can position the sound, but it won't move from one place to another.
This is an import of a Vegas 4 project that has many, many surround pans that I've done a lot of noise reduction work on recently.
I've already tried deleting/re-creating and creating new keyframes.
No busses, only Surround Master.

Try that function in a new project in V5, not the one imported from V4 and see what happens. There are many new functions in the V5 menus. Also right click the 5.1 surround speaker icon and select the automatic controls. (I forgot the exact nomenclature).

New projects work the same. I can't find the '5.1 surround speaker' or anything about 'automatic controls'.
All my V4 projects that I open in V5 have the surround panner front dead center on all keyframes, but since all keyframes affect all other keyframes, I'm not really sure.
Opening my V4 projects in V4 everything works fine, but of course I can't open my new V5 projects in V4.

I am normally in learning mode but as I just toyed with this yesterday I'll try to help. You may well have tried these but here goes.
A couple of things to check:
File-Properties- Audio tab, Master Bus Mode set to 5.1
Options-preference, Audio device tab, Audio device type-(direct sound surround mapper works for me.)
Insert -Audio envelope-Surround pan keyframes
Took a while to find the key frames then noticed the little diamond on the track header.
Place the curser on the time line. Now drag the pan control to the desired position and a key frame point is created. They do not appear to affect each other.
Hope this helps

I Found It!!
It was the little 'Automation Settings' Gear in the track header box on the left. Click once and 'Show Automation Controls' and leave it in 'Automation Write (Touch)' mode. I had to manually turn this on for all my audio tracks.
Now it looks and works like V4, except the diamond is now a gear.
Thanks for your efforts.
