They use a pseudo delay control to give the surround sound impression. It is definitely a waste of money for listening to music. Very unnatural IMO, but so are headphones in general really or surround sound speakers. You should audition them or buy them from a place with a liberal return policy.
Unnatural as they are I do like headphones for quiet listening. I have from cheap to expensive:
Sennheiser PX100 (open back)
Grado SR60 (open back)
JVC HADX3 (closed back)....for monitoring audio for video, editing, and listening
Audio Technica ATH-7 electrostatic headphones that I have had for 35 years and that sound just as incredible today as they did 35 years ago.
Now as far as gaming goes, I don't play them so maybe someone else can jump in here.
