SVCD help. Im new to vegas.

First off, I just switched from Pinnacle S8 to Vegas video. I love it. Pinnacle is the WORST, most unstable, piece of junk out there. In my learning how to use the new software, I am unable to figure out how to make an svcd. Any help you can give me would be great. Just telling me which items to click on as far as rendering or making disk would help a lot

I would read the manual if I where you...

but...

choose render from the File menu

choose MainConcept mpeg-2 in "save as type" and then one choose of the svcd templates there is.

Thanks for the helpful info. My manual is in acrobat reader format and is a pain to find anything. I am waiting for my written one to arrive. I REALLY appreciate the help

SVCDs use a specific mpeg2 format, you can use the MC encoder in VV to render but I don't know how you would go about creating a menu going down that path.

I use TMPGEnc in preference to MC but with good quality material I doubt you'll find any difference.

I then use Nero to author the mpreg2 files into a finished SVCD.

If you don't need menus then you could probably get by without the authoring and should play just fine in a DVD player, not so certain about hardware SVCD players though.

how do you use TMPGEnc to encode? Do you render the project as a DV .AVI file first, then compress it w/TMPGEnc?

Encoded with the correct stuff and did 2 svcds today. All is well. Thanks for the info.

Haw1144,
you can do it one of two ways:
1) Render out from VV as AVI and then encode in TMPGEnc using the SVCD template or
2) Use Satish's frameserver to encode directly from the VV timeline using TMPGEnc.

I haven't tried the second method, I should at least give it a whirl, there's no real downside to the first method and for me the workflow is better but thats only because I'll usually setup TMPGEnc to run several encodes over night

colorader, I hope that you are in a "better family" here.
In Germany I know a lot of happy "Vegas players".
