What's in the new version:

It doesn't compare it to older versions, but you should know what your version has in it anyway.

Upgrade pricing:

Sony's good about upgrades. You can upgrade from any previous version to the current version for the discounted price.

Thanks for this. Im clearly a beginner. I found the SVMSplat 6 complicated and releid on a lot of assistnace from this forum to get me up and running. I was in Staples today and sae Corels video editing suite and was wondering if tehres much between them as they are priced similarly. One thing i found awkward in the SVMS plat was the clumsy method to add titles, credits etc - has this been simplified/made easier in 8? Also, there was a lack of useful DVD menu screen templates - are there any freely available to download?

Thanks
Mark

I have been using VMS (plat) in many versions - and even long before the program was called VMS :-) - and have made many, many videos with it.

Often I read some picking on its texting abilities - which I really do not agree with and also do not understand.
It might be, that it costs a little manual reading to begin with - but the learning curve is pretty steep and you quickly discover the versatility of VMS's texting.

And - when you have learned how to use the VMS texting possibilities - there is no way that the word "clumsy" can be used about it.
Kind of the same as Eugenia answers in your other thread here.

Compared to the competition, Vegas's titling is not really impressing. Even the new titling engine in Vegas Pro could not really impress me... Still, 'real' amateurs keep things sober, I like to think.
On the other hand, Vegas is extremely stable, as you already know, and the upgrade will be like that also, even on low spec machines. It also consumes far less disk space compared to the competition.

Please see my answer in one of your other posts, I think it was Vegas V corel.

Basically, you can get an upgrade from the sony website, I know because I did, BUT, I would be careful. Sony used Fedex to send the discs and then Fedex charged £20.82 (UK pounds approx 40US$) for import and admin.

I would look at buying the complete package from a uk site and get proper manuals.

I also had problems with installing it, which I was not alone and had to wipe the old program, edit the registry and remove net framework.

I cant comment on wether it was worth it cos I dont use the other programs.

You can do some great tricks with titles using compositing and track motion but it is complicated for a beginner like myself.
