Swap Stills Sequence Tip!

Grazie wrote on 5/30/2007, 7:40 AM
You've got your stills nicely arranged . .. you think . . .

"Hmmm .. that's outta sequence . . hmm .. I don't wanna futz about with the markers and the music having GOT all that beautifully marked on the beat.. hmmm..."

What I just did was . . example of 2 stills: A and B

#1 - Click on A and "Open in Trimmer"

#2 - RightClick Drag back ONTOP of B as TAKE

#3 - Hit T

#4 - Click on B and "Open in Trimmer"

#5 - RightClick Drag back onto of A as TAKE

I've now SWAPPED out the 2 stills. PLUS I can Preview them hitting T.

Wanna improve on it?

Grazie

The great Swamee says,"here comes another script."

YEah! - Lol! - Yup, job creation!

I bet there MUST be a script? Just HAS to be?

"Swap Stills Script" and leave/make as Takes?

Any reason you can't right-click drag/drop, and then select "Swap?"

None, that I can see/think of? I was just doing my normal "ham-fisted" manipulations.

I just did a project with 50 something jpegs and wanted to re-arrange the order somewhat.

You interested then?

. . oooo La la. .

I got others up me sleeve too . .

John, I re-read your suggestion - is there already a "swap" option within Vegas?

Yes. It's called "shuffle." Type that word into the "search" section in the help file in Vegas. Click on "Shuffling Events" and it brings up a nice little animated help section (hadn't seen animation in Vegas help before).

[edit] actually, that isn't exactly the swap that you described ...

[further edit] Someone mentioned a script, and sure enough, JohnnyRoy did write one back in April 2004 called SwapEvents.js. Takes the first two selected events that it finds and interchanges them.

Douglas - excellent! Thanks Pal!

John - lol .. loved your edits and re-edits!! Yup, knew the Shuffle edit thing. But, as you worked out, I was wanting to SWAP out 2 stills. However, it doesn't create them as TAKES.

The next development, as I'm looking at section/regions, would be to be able to GROUP 2 sets and SWAP those Groups? Or maybe, Swapping Regions . . now THAT could have further ramifications too!!

Hmmm...

That swap script doesn't do what you want, I don't think. I just tried it, and I am not sure exactly how it is supposed to be used. It is highly ranked at VASST, so I am probably just not understanding its intended use.

John? I have 2 stills/Events outta of seq. Pick-off the 2, I did Cltr+Click on each separately - they could be MILES apart - and hit the Script Icon. They swap places. DONE!

My use was that I had selected some "seq" stills, but in the event of looking at them several, aesthetically, needed to change places. BUT I had already put my markers, against the sound bed, in place.

But if the events are different length, doesn't the script leave gaps/overlaps on the timeline? Also, if events have audio attached, I don't think that gets moved.

I tried it in 7e without sound and it worked perfectly. I only tried 2 pictures at a time.

Yes - #1. But if that script could do TAKES then that space would fill with the STILL. This is what I achieved with my method via Trimmer.

Also, if events have audio attached, I don't think that gets moved.

Yes - #2 . . well almost! The photies don't. The STILLS were synced, via markers, to a music bed. And it was this I didn't wanna mess with.

Now, how could TAKES be included? This ways they would FILL the Original/Parent event-space.
