sync

Hello,

Does anyone have any good tips on how to sync video and audio? I have some video footage of a band and the audio is not great, I have the audio recorded from the board that I'd like to use instead. It would have been helpful if I could add a marker to the clip (since moving either the video or the audio doesn't move the marker). I'd really like to avoid nudging everything back and forth....please help, and thanks in advance.

Once you have the video and audio sync'd you can group the two together. To do this hold down the shift KEY and click each clip then press G. This will lock the two clips together.

That is useful information, but I was wondering if there are any tips to get the audio in sync in the first place?

thanks,

Zoom in on some very noticable event for both audio and video ... like the drummer doing a big cymbal crash. Set a loop to play a second or two around this point. Preview in loop mode (so it keeps playing over and over again). Nudge the audio track back and forth until it's right.

It seems to work best for me if I break it into small segments of 10 minutes or so.
A clapboard at start and end works well if you don't have any edits in between.

Do you have one or two audio sources? I make my audio on DAT or MD, my video on DV and then use the video audio (which is always in sync) as a reference. Usually the video tape marches a small bit faster than the file made from the DAT/MD. So I look for convenient places in the sound file to split it and move the rest of it forward a little bit.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think the looping thing works best!
