Synching Video Actions to Music...

I'm wondering what the easiest way to synch certain actions in a video to a song is. I'm using Vegas Movie Studio+DVD.

For instance I want to have my daughter raise her hands up and down to the beat of a song. I have a 3 second clip that I can repeat but I'm not sure how to synch it to the beat. I'm very new to this application. I've used Adobe Premiere on a Mac but that was 10 years ago. I thought in Premiere there was a way to play the song and click out points along the way (like along with the beat or certain areas of the song) so they show up on the timeline and allow you to lay out the clips.

Any help would be appreciated.

while the song plays hit the m key and it creates a marker

Using the markers will work for slower paced songs or cases where you only need one or two markers. Otherwise, or if you want more fine-tuned control, you'll likely wind up needing to zoom in pretty far on the timeline. This will allow you to "see" the peaks and valleys of the sound track you're trying to synch to. You might try playing the section of interest a couple times and watch the cursor as it passes over the sound track's graphic; pretty soon you'll be able to both see and hear the place where you want to place the video event. At that point you can also place a marker.

On a slightly tangential note, I use Muvee AutoProducer to autocreate "music videos" from images and video clips. It does a pretty good job of synching scene changes to the beats in the music. (http://www.muvee.com)

VASST has an Ultimate plugin that does the same thing ("Photo Montage"), but I'm not ready to step up to Vegas 5 (yet!) <smile>

Windows Movie Maker also has this auto capability, but Muvee does a better job.
