Synchronizing video and sound

Purchased Vegas Movie Studio 4.0 a week ago. Using mostly common sense and manual, have succeeded in entering and editing about an hour's worth of video from camcorder onto time line. Unfortunately, have found that in several places, sound continues about five seconds beyond end of the corresponding video scene (i.e. into the next, no longer relevant scene). How can I re-synchronize video and sound? Can I somehow *un-tie* the two tracks and move the sound track only along the time line, independently of the video track? Much obliged for any advice!

Yes you can do that. You can group and ungroup the events. The sound and the video can be manipulated completely separately.
I'm not infront of the software right now so I can not tell you the specifics but if you search for "grouping "in the VMS help, you should find it.

Thanks for your prompt reply! Cd I ask you (or other readers) , though, when you have the software in front of you, to more specifically give me the needed instructions? I haven't been able to "uncouple" the video and sound tracks using the "grouping-ungrouping" routes as they seem to deal with grouping of events, rather than uncoupling sound and video. To remind, what i would really like to do is to move the sound track (in its entirety) to the left by about five seconds, without also moving the video track. many thanks.

There's a button that looks like 2 strips of film with a lock between them. That's "ignore event grouping" and toggling it will allow you do do what you want.
