Syncing Old Film effect with overlying text

I am adding the old film effect to the beginning of a slide show I am creating. I also have some text that I am placing over the pictures. I have applied the old film effect to both the video and text tracks. The problem is it doesn't look real b/c the jitter effect of the video is not in sync with jitter of the text. Is there some way to make them jitter at the same time?

Also, when I add the effect to the text. it creates a large flashing halo effect around the text. Any way to remove that?

As a side question, I'd also like to add some effect to the audio to make it sound like an old recording as well, but I can't find anything about how to do that.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You could start a separate project with just the text and pictures and render that to a new file. Then use that new file in your main project in place of the two separate text/picture tracks and add the old film effect to it.

For old sounding sound, try some EQ. Boost the frequencies from 500 to 2K and reduce everything else. Running it a little faster gives an old-timey feel too. You could try adding some noise, maybe record the sound of your finger rubbing on a piece of paper in slow circles, then add this at a low level and loop it. If you do a google search for 'sound effect movie projector' you can probably find some free samples to download.

If you have Sound Forge you could use the Effects / Pitch Bend and have the audio slowly speed up and slow down a little bit. Don't uses too much of this or your audience will start getting seasick!

Thanks so much for the solution. The video looks great now.

I have not yet tried to alter the audio.

Thanks again!
